At Seitz Elementary, second grade students learn a variety of new skills and concepts across all academic subjects. In language arts, they continue to develop their reading fluency and comprehension, as well as their writing skills. Students learn about nouns, verbs, adjectives, and other parts of speech, and begin to write more complex sentences and paragraphs. In math, second graders learn addition and subtraction with regrouping, as well as measurement, time, money, and basic geometry concepts. Science topics may include plants, animals, weather, and the solar system, while social studies may cover topics such as community helpers, maps, and basic economics. Second grade students at Seitz Elementary also have opportunities to participate in art, music, physical education, and other extracurricular activities to develop their creativity and social skills.
